South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics is reportedly gearing up for the release of a new flavor of its already popular Galaxy Tab tablet PC in early April, namely the Wi-Fi-only version that it announced during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in early January.

According to some of the latest news on the matter, the leading handset vendor would aim at having the device available for purchase starting with April 4th, while attaching a price tag of $399 to it.

The launch date was not officially confirmed until now, but a shot of a leaked document that emerged on Droid-life shows that things might turn this way.

The tablet PC arrived on shelves last year with 3G connectivity options on board, and was made available for purchase in various markets around the world, including the United States, via carriers.

In January, Samsung unveiled not only the Wi-Fi-only flavor of the device, but also a 4G-enabled variant, which should hit the shelves in the next few months as well.

The tablet PC sports a 7-inch touchscreen display, along with a 1GHz application processor inside, Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, and a wide range of features that are usually found in smartphones running under Google's mobile platform.

The device was heavily criticized before, some suggesting that it would be only a larger smartphone, mainly due to the OS that powers it, and not a true tablet.

However, Samsung seems set to prove that things are actually different, and that the experience its Galaxy Tab can offer would be above that offered by other devices.

The video advertisment embedded at the bottom of this article would show you more on Samsung's vision on the capabilities of this 7-inch device.

Undoubtedly, the Samsung Galaxy Tab has a lot of very appealing capabilities packed inside, and it would make a lot of users happy, especially when on sale at $399, contract free.

When compared to other similar devices, many of which pack dual-core application processors inside, the Wi-Fi-only Tab might not shine as much, but only time will tell whether it would indeed prove successful too.
