One of the new features that the Windows Phone Mango OS flavor was set to bring along was the possibility to purchase applications from the web, and that option is now live, it seems. In line with the availability of Mango as a software update for existing Windows Phone devices, the web Marketplace went live.

Microsoft has yet to make a formal announcement on this, but some people already accessed the software portal, and report that things are going great.

One of the main benefits of the web Marketplace is the fact that users will be able to search for applications on the larger screens of their desktop PCs, as well as from other devices.

Since launched in October last year, the Windows Phone Marketplace has grown significantly, and more applications are expected to arrive in it now that the Mango OS flavor is here.

This means that users will have more applications to consider for download and purchase, and that they might begin spending more time searching for new applications.

This is why the availability of a web marketplace is a great addition to the Windows Phone features list, since users will be able to find these applications easier than before.

Microsoft themselves believe so, and have already said that this is the main enhancement that the web Marketplace will bring.

Moreover, developers will benefit from increased visibility of their applications, since users will be able to browse through lists easier than before, while having the option to send software to their phones with increased ease.

The web Marketplace also offers users the possibility to share applications with friends and contacts.

Both users who will update their handsets to Mango starting today will be able to enjoy these features, as well as those who will purchase new phones based on this OS flavor. The first handsets powered by Windows phone Mango should hit the shelves globally starting with October.
