Australian mobile phone carrier Vodafone has just announced the release of a new Android-based handset on its network, namely the Samsung Galaxy Fit.

The new handset comes with a touchscreen display that can deliver a 240 x 320 pixels resolution, and with a fast application processor, capable of delivering increased performance capabilities to all users.

The Samsung Galaxy Fit smartphone was added to the carrier's offering for $0 upfront on the $49 per month Cap, with a minimum cost over 24 months of $1176.

The phone's specs list shows that it is only a mid-level device, but that it still has the capabilities that users are looking for in a smartphone.

“With a professional sophistication that fits right in with your career path, and a sleek look that shows you still like to party, the Samsung GALAXY Fit hits all the right style notes,” the wireless carrier explains.

It sports a 5.0-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus and support for video recording, as well as a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, and with a 2GB card included in the package.

Samsung Galaxy Fit also features WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity options, along with USB port, 3G support, 3.5mm headphone jack, speaker phone, and the usual set of sensors.

Running under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, the new device also features access to the Android Market for downloading applications and games, as well as support for various mobile services from Google. It comes pre-loaded with specific apps from Samsung as well.

“Social Hub brings together your contacts, calendar and email with Instant Messaging and Social Networking Sites, like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, onto just one convenient screen,” Vodafone notes.

“No login screen and quick access to all your accounts through the one app means you're able to interact quickly with more people in the way you want.”

Those who would like to purchase the new Samsung Galaxy Fit from Vodafone Australia will find the device available on the wireless carrier's website here.
