Australian mobile phone carrier Vodafone is getting ready to make available for download software updates for two popular devices from Samsung, namely Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S.

The carrier has announced that the updates have been approved for deployment, and that it will start their roll-out in the not too distant future.

Galaxy Nexus is en-route to get a taste of the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich update that has been delivered to it in other markets around the world as well. The update brings a variety of enhancements over the previously available 4.0.1 platform version.

The new platform version started to arrive on GSM Galaxy Nexus devices sometime at the end of March, yet it appears that Vodafone needed some good two months to ensure that it can deliver the expected experience.

As for the Galaxy S, Vodafone is planning on bringing its OS version up from 2.3.3 to 2.3.6, while also delivering the Value Pack update that Samsung has prepared for the device.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the South Korean mobile phone maker said a while ago that it wouldn’t be able to offer Ice Cream Sandwich to Galaxy S users, but that some capabilities from this OS version will be delivered in the Value Pack.

According to Ausdroid, Vodafone confirmed this as well, saying that the Value Pack “brings a number of ICS-like features to Gingerbread such as Face Unlock, homescreen folders and more.”

Samsung is not the first handset vendor to have offered a Value Pack to its users. HTC did the same a while ago, when announcing that some devices would receive Sense 3.6 and not the brand new Sense 4.0.

No specific info on when the updates will be delivered was provided, nor on whether they will arrive over the air or through Samsung’s desktop application, Kies.
