For the last time, video games are just like any other product consumed excessively

It wasn't long before someone came out and said that yesterday's shooting at Virgina Tech was because of video games. Famous game-hating attorney Jack Thompson found this as a perfect opportunity to blame games even more for the mishaps occurring with youngsters today, while Dr. Phil McGraw (shrink) appeared on CNN's Larry King Live last night, where the host of the show asked him: "Why, though - OK, you want to kill someone, you're crazed, you're a little nuts, girlfriend drops you, why do you kill innocent people?? Dr. McGraw, are they treatable?"

DR. PHIL answered: "Well, Larry, every situation is different? The question really is can we spot them. And the problem is we are programming these people as a society. You cannot tell me - common sense tells you that if these kids are playing video games, where they're on a mass killing spree in a video game, it's glamorized on the big screen, it's become part of the fiber of our society. You take that and mix it with a psychopath, a sociopath or someone suffering from mental illness and add in a dose of rage, the suggestibility is too high," said McGraw as I found posted on Game Politics today.

So it's video games that are brought to our attention again. Why is it always video games that make us bad? Isn't it obvious that everything else influencing kids today and video games are just one part of this huge rotten world we live in? Yesterday I heard about a guy killing 32 students including a Romanian teacher in a Virginia University campus. The teacher, Liviu Librescu, was declared a hero after holding the door with his body so the students could jump out the window. Unfortunately, the man was fatally wounded in the attack.

Was that about video games, too? The shooter left a note in his dormitory, before going out to shoot everyone including himself, saying that he was treated like garbage. Everyone has a weak spot. Let's just say that video games are what encourages some to grab a gun instead of a knife. What, people weren't crazy before video games appeared? They were crazy in a different way, that's all. Technology changed the world and crazies act accordingly. Video games are fun and necessary for mental relaxation and pleasure, but they can also become harmful if consumed excessively. It goes the same for everything we humans consume.
