Apple’s iPhone 5 is already available for purchase in the United States. No less than 16 carriers are now offering one or more versions of the device.

It’s been quite a ride for Apple’s iPhone, which was only available through one major operator several years ago.

However, things have changed and the Cupertino-based company decided to make its flagship smartphone available through as many channels as possible.

It is also worth mentioning that this year Apple’s iPhone was offered for the first time on prepaid with Cricket and Virgin Mobile USA carriers selling the iPhone 4 and 4S with plans starting from $30 USD.

The iPhone 5 hit shelves in the US on September 21 at three major operators, while other regional carriers, including Cricket started to offer the latest iPhone device on September 28. Still, Virgin Mobile USA has yet to announce the upcoming availability of the CDMA iPhone 5.

Although the carrier did not unveil any details on the launch of the smartphone, it looks like the folks over at MacRumors were able to confirm the Apple and Virgin Mobile USA have teamed up once again to offer a CDMA variant of the iPhone 5.

According to the latest hearsay, Virgin Mobile USA will offer the iPhone 5 in black and white color options. The following model numbers have been leaked online: Black (MD250LL/A: 16 GB, MD489LL/A: 32 GB, MD574LL/A: 64 GB) and White (MD355LL/A: 16 GB, MD566LL/A: 32 GB, MD591LL/A: 64 GB).

So far Virgin Mobile’s official declined to comment on the information and simply told MacRumors that it has yet to make any announcements about this.

It’s even strange that Virgin Mobile USA did not launch the iPhone 5 on its prepaid plans at the same time as Cricket, we expect the carrier to come forward with an official statement within the next few weeks, so stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
