A few weeks ago, a guy named Zach Danger Brown, who currently lives in the city of Columbus in Ohio, US, asked the online community for help making a potato salad. Much to his surprise, he ended up making buckets of money.

As previously reported, Zach Danger Brown launched a mock fundraising campaign on Kickstarter, and kindly asked folks to part with a small fraction of their live savings so that he could make a $10 (€7.45) potato salad.

For some reason, this fundraising campaign went viral, and the man found himself raising well over $55,000 (€40,975). In a nutshell, it looks like potato salad lover Zach Danger Brown is now $55,492 (€41,341) richer.

Since $55,492 is way more money than the $10 this man initially asked for, Zach's plans for the near future have somewhat changed. He no longer wants to make a simple potato salad. Instead, he has an entire event in the works: PotatoStock 2014.

In a post on Kickstarter, Zach Danger Brown explains that this event, scheduled to take place this coming September 27, won't be just about a bunch of people getting together to eat potato salad and listen to awesome music.

On the contrary, the potato salad enthusiast and the folks helping him plan the event want PotatoStock 2014 to double as a fundraising opportunity. This time, the money will not go into cooking one delicious dish or another, but will be used to help those less fortunate.

“We have a giant outdoor space reserved (The Columbus Commons) for September 27th, 2014, from noon to 8pm. The show is free and all proceeds from selling concessions will go to a permanent fund to end hunger and homelessness in Central Ohio,” Zach explains.

“We are going to contribute a significant portion of the remaining money to the fund at the Columbus Foundation. This will create a permanent fund to help Central Ohio's non-profits end hunger and homelessness,” he adds.

Apparently, Zach Danger Brown is one of those people who are all too aware of the fact that, fun times and mock fundraising campaigns aside, it's important that everyone try to make the world be it at least a little bit better. Hence his decision to donate part of the money to charity.

As he puts it, “These types of funds gain interest every year and grow over time, so, while our little internet joke will one day be forgotten, the impact will be felt forever.” Furthermore, “We believe that humor plays a big role in making the world a better place.”
