While other Canadian major carriers retail have started to retail Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G, Videotron has just announced the availability of the HTC Flyer 4G tablet.

Unfortunately, the carrier's offers is far from competitive, as the tablet is available for a reduced price of $499.95, while the suggested retail price is $649.95, which is about the same amount that customers have to pay for Samsung's 10-incher.

Furthermore, the tablet comes with a 'magic pen', which is sold separately for another $79.95 for customers who want to take advantage of the Scribe technology.

Up until today customers could only purchase the Wi-Fi version of the HTC Flyer, which is available via The Source retailer.

Videotron offers several plan options to go with the HTC Flyer 4G, depending on the user's needs, such as $15 plan with 500MB of data usage, $20 plan with 1GB data, $30 plan with 3GB data, and $40 plans with 6GB of data.

Aside Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities, Videotron's HTC Flyer provides users 4G fast data speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps.

Unlike Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G that runs Google's Honeycomb operating system, HTC Flyer 4G is powered by an older Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform.

However, HTC promised that a future upgrade will bring its 7-inch tablet to the latest Honeycomb version.

The device packs 32GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 16GB memory card included).

Its small 7-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen display supports 16 million colors and 600 x 1024 pixel resolution.

There's also a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, as well as a secondary 1.3-megapixel front facing camera.

According to the manufacturer, the tablet's 4000 Li-Ion battery should provide up to 1470 hours of standby time and about 4 hours of constant video playback.
