One of the mobile phones that made it into the wild quite a few times before, though it hasn't been announced officially as of yet, is the HTC Supersonic, which has just emerged in a short video on the Internet. No official details are available on the device, yet the leaked info on it suggests that we're looking at the first Android mobile phone on the market to sport WiMAX connectivity on board.

A recently published video with the handset, which can be seen embedded at the bottom of this article, shows HTC Supersonic's large touchscreen display, as well as its name engraved on the back cover, so there are great chances that this is indeed the device that many have been dreaming about. With Google's Android OS on board, it should attract a lot of people on its side, that's for sure.

As most of you might already know, the HTC Supersonic is expected to make an official appearance at the upcoming CTIA show. Moreover, it should become the first WiMAX Android-based smartphone on Sprint's airwaves, and also the first such phone brought to the market by HTC. Although the handset is not confirmed, Sprint did say that they planned on releasing a WiMAX handset by summer, and we might be looking exactly at this device now.

The previously leaked specifications on HTC Supersonic suggest that it will come with a 4.3-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, while being powered by a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm, coupled with 1GB of ROM, and running under the Android 2.1 operating system with the HTC Sense experience thrown over it.

Although the video below is a little blurry, one can still read clearly the HTC Supersonic name on the back of the handset. According to the guys over at mobilecrunch, the phone is headed for Sprint for sure, based on the fact that the device includes WiMAX, and that a “mysterious HTC device recently showed up in their inventory.” Hopefully, this is indeed the first WiMAX phone the wireless carrier will deliver to the market this year, so stay tuned for more details on it.
