Paradox Interactive has announced that Victoria 2 has now gone gold and that players who are interested in the new grand strategy title can log into digital distribution services like Gamersgate and pre order the game to get access to some interesting goodies. Victoria 2 is built by the same core team that has worked on the Europa Universalis series and on the Hearts of Iron franchise. The game will allow players to control any nation they are interested in during the colonial empire building of the XIX century, up to the great conflict that is World War I, controlling how industry develops, how political reforms happen and how the map of the world evolves over the decades. Victoria 2 is set to be released on August 13.

Those who pre order the video game for digital download will gain access to the official Victoria 2 Soundtrack, for immediate play, and will also get an in game music piece, called “Lament for the Queen”. Gamers that buy the game before it is launched also get access to the official Victoria 2 manual, a tech guide, a map for the in game world and the registration codes needed to access all the areas of the official site linked to the new title, including a strategy guide that can be consulted before the game is out.

Victoria was arguable the most complex of the family of grand strategy titles that Paradox developed their reputation on. Fans have long asked for a sequel to the game that would iron out the rough elements of the original and bring the concepts to the all new Clausewitz engine. Because the game was considered to be a commercial long shot the Chief Executive Officer of Paradox agreed to shave his head if the game broke even, which he has already done based on pre launch buzz.

Here's the trailer that Paradox Interactive has released for Victoria 2:
