Chinese Officials are recording even more sting deaths in several attacks on residents by giant Asian killer hornets. The species, named Vespa Mandarinia, has already taken 42 lives.

The Xinhua news agency reports that the death toll has increased in the last few days, as the attacks continue.

Another 1,640 people have been stung, some dozens of times. Others have described having over 200 stings on their bodies.

According to the National Health and Family Planning Commission, 206 people are currently hospitalized and they are being treated for the stings.

Most of the incidents have been registered in Ankang City. They have started in early July, when a heat wave hit China.

Two months of scorching heat later, the insects have grown out of control, particularly in area with thick vegetation.
