Might announce the handset that day

Motorola Droid, the Android-based handset that will soon make it to Verizon Wireless' offering, hasn't got an official launch date yet, though it seems that things are about to be unveiled in the very near future. The wireless carrier is reportedly sending out invites to the media for a Droid-related event that will be held on October 28.

According to Engadget, one should expect for the mobile phone to be unveiled on that very day, and there is no question that the Android-based Droid will be the hero of the event, considering that Motorola's name appears on the invitations. Moreover, the invitation also says that this will be the carrier's “must-have device of the year,” and so far Droid seems to be that handset, that's for sure.

Up until now, as many of you might already know, all that we've got on the Motorola Droid includes a series of leaked specifications, as well as a website that possibly shows a countdown clock pointing towards a yet unofficial release date. Expected to go official on October 30, the Motorola Droid seems set to actually be unveiled a little earlier, though nothing specific on its availability became available up until now.

However, a promo video with Droid shows that November will be the month in which things will be cleared up, and one can only expect for the handset to become available for purchase at the beginning of next month. This assertion is also sustained by promotional mailer sent to GearLog (via phandroid) that shows November 2009 and sends to the recently launched website for the handset.

We'll probably learn more on Droid's availability in less than a week from now, and we can only hope that it will live up to the expectations. Which, one should agree, grew high enough, with Verizon only hinting towards the phone's capabilities in a rather strange manner. Watch this space for more updates on this.
