Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless announced the expansion of its 3G network in Unity, Maine, through the deployment of a new cell site in the area. According to the company, the new roll-out is meant to offer leveraged wireless voice and 3G coverage along Route 202, Route 139 and Route 220 in Unity and Troy, while also covering the surrounding areas.

Verizon Wireless also says that its network, the largest and most reliable 3G network in the United States, is able to offer users that own either a notebook or a smartphone a wide range of services, including the ability to browse the web while enjoying faster speeds and quicker page loading times, along with the possibility to quickly download and play music.

At the same time, the company's subscribers can also benefit from the ability to watch streaming video, to download and play 3D games, to set up video conferences with their friends, to share files fast and easy, or to send or receive emails with attachments. Besides the mobile broadband Internet access available via its network, the company also provides services like V CAST and V CAST Music with Rhapsody.

Verizon Wireless' 3G network coverage across New England is unparalleled,” Director for Network System Performance for Verizon Wireless, Richard Enright, said. “We've invested billions of dollars into New England believing that even the most sophisticated cell phone is only as good as the network it runs on. Our continued aggressive network investments provide customers with a 3G network advantage at home and on vacation.”

The mobile phone carrier has also announced the fact that it has invested more than $50 billion for the enhancements on its wireless voice and data coverage. The company's New England network has seen investments of more than $2.4 billion during the past nine years, so as to offer 3G wireless data connectivity to the mobile phone users in the area.

I live 4.3 miles by air from this tower in Unity Maine. I have both "cellphone" and "Broadband Service" with Verizon going on 4 years. I think Mr Enwrights Tower is a tad bit less than what he is claiming. I have never "streamed" from home off that tower. I spend most time staring and waiting for a screen that doesn't say "dormant", "disconnected from service". I think its poor customer relations to be working on "metro Portlands 4 G service" meanwhile leaving a "Premium Package " customer with "national access", whats really sad is when I went to pay my verizon bill, using the "Verizon pre-programmed phone buttons", I was greeted by "Welcome to U.S. Cellular, your number could not be connected as dialed........" Yes Mr Enwright, I spent more of my time instead of "tech-support mumbo jumbo" I even bought a repeater to find out you tower is directional ! How it does that confuses me being as your tower is omni directional ? Now the phone is another failure to stay connected ~ see above !
