Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has just announced the expansion of its 4G LTE network to five new markets in the United States.

Starting with January 19, 2012, users in Glens Falls and Utica, N.Y.; Lawton, Okla.; and Brownsville and McAllen, Texas can benefit from the wireless carrier’s 4G LTE network.

Also today, the wireless carrier plans on expanding the coverage it offers in three markets, namely Atlanta, Houston and Spokane, Wash.

The wireless services provider is committed to provide users with great network coverage all around the country and promises increased reliability and better performance of its airwaves.

When the network is fired up in the said five new markets, over 200 million people in 195 markets across the United States will be able to benefit from the fast services that the Verizon 4G LTE network can deliver.

To take advantage of these services, users can choose from a variety of devices, including the new Spectrum by LG, one of the six new 4G LTE devices that were unveiled at this year’s CES fair.

There are also new 4G-capable DROID devices available for Big Red’s customers, along with Verizon Jetpacks and tablet PCs such as Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7.

“As we enter 2012, Verizon’s 4G LTE network remains the largest by far in the United States, and we continue to grow the network and bring Verizon’s unparalleled 4G LTE services to more and more people,” said David Small, chief technical officer of Verizon Wireless.

The wireless carrier notes that its users should benefit from average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink, or from speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.

“When customers travel outside of a 4G LTE coverage area, devices automatically connect to Verizon Wireless’ 3G network, enabling customers to stay connected from coast to coast,” the wireless carrier continues.

“Verizon Wireless’ 3G network is the most reliable high-speed data network in the country and allows customers in 3G coverage areas who purchase 4G LTE devices today to take advantage of 4G LTE speeds when the faster network becomes available in their area, or when they travel to an area already covered by 4G LTE.”
