Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has been recently named the best wireless data service provider in the world in the 2009 “Best in Business Travel” Awards chosen by the readers of Business Traveler magazine. The title comes as the result of a survey the magazine has conducted over its readers, and has been influenced by their opinions on the companies responsible for making their business travels easier and more productive

“The continued recognition from Business Traveler readers of our international data services is a strong validation that our efforts to extend our best-in-class domestic services to business customers to stay connected and productive while traveling abroad are working,” said John Mara, director for global services for Verizon Wireless. “For many business customers, travel is critical to their jobs, and we believe they should maintain the ability to access corporate data and the Internet wherever business takes them.”

According to the wireless carrier, it provides users with the possibility to stay connected to data in a number of over 195 destinations, and also offers 3G speeds in more than 85 of them. The carrier provides users with a number of data services that can be enjoyed globally, including GlobalEmail, GlobalAccess, built-in GlobalAccess and International Text Messaging.

With GlobalEmail, Verizon's business customers can access corporate LAN e-mail and attachments and personal email from global-capable devices. The service comes with a flat-rate data pricing plan through which users also receive Web browsing, picture messaging and Visual Voice Mail. Through GlobalAccess, Verizon's users can get their e-mail, corporate intranet applications and more on their laptops while traveling abroad in parts of Africa, Asia, Australia, North and South America, and Europe.

The built-in GlobalAccess comes with a series of laptops and features “streamlined global mobile broadband access on CDMA 1X/EV-DO, GSM, and 3G UMTS wireless networks.” The technology is aimed at offering users a seamless transition between networks, as well as high-speed Internet connectivity. The International Text Messaging service offers Verizon customers the possibility to send text messages for $0.50 each, while receiving them for only $0.05 each when traveling outside of US and Canada.
