Dell Streak, the 5-inch Android-based tablet PC that Dell launched on the market during the ongoing year, is now $180 cheaper if purchased unlocked, going for only $399.99 on Dell's website.

The price cut applies only to the Carbon Black 16GB Dell Streak, which would ship to end-users only in January, it seems.

Even so, the deal seems pretty appealing, especially since we're talking about an Android device that sports a regular price tag of $579.99.

Moreover, Dell notes that, even if the device comes right from the start with Android 1.6 on board, an update to the newer Android 2.2 Froyo OS version would be available as soon as the tablet PC is fired up.

As stated above, the main drawback here would be the fact that the device won't ship until about three weeks from now. As of today, the estimated shipping date is January 11th, 2011.

For those who might have not encountered the Dell Streak before, we should note that the tablet PC is available for purchase in the US with contract agreements too, on the airwaves of AT&T.

Those who would like to sign in for a new two-year contract agreement with the wireless carrier would have to pay only $199.99 for the tablet PC.

According to some of the latest rumors around the Internet, it comes as a surprise that Dell decided to lower the price tag for its device that much.

The move might be a clear indicator of the fact that the computer maker if getting ready for the release of a new Android-based tablet PC, a successor for the Dell Streak.

Previous rumors on the matter indicated that the company is readying the release of tablet PC that would pack a larger touchscreen display than the currently available Streak.

While no official info on this emerged, we might expect for that device to be unveiled in the first half of the next year. In the meantime, you can check on the new deals available for the Dell Streak here.
