It seems that the recent details about the future movie based on the Uncharted franchise are just wild rumors, as the director of the upcoming Uncharted 3 video game, Justin Richmond, cleared things up in an interview.

The Uncharted series is quickly becoming one of the biggest franchises on the PlayStation 3, so it's pretty obvious that Sony would want to turn it into a movie series as well.

While just a few rumors popped up here and there, a lot of details were, seemingly, confirmed in the last few months.

Among them, we found out that actor Mark Wahlberg would play the hero of the franchise, Nathan Drake, and that the movie will focus on Drake's extended family, including his father and uncle, at least according to a quote attributed to the movie's producer, David O. Russel.

That’s not exactly true, says Richmond, who, besides working on the upcoming Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception video game, is also tied into the development of the movie.

When asked about Russel's statements by Joystiq, Richmond laughed and then said that, "First of all, all that stuff was denied by David O. Russell. He actually called us up and was like, 'I don't know what these guys are talking about.'"

Richmond also eased the worries of fans, and said that Wahlberg was nowhere near confirmed to play Nathan Drake in the future movie.

The Naughty Dog executive then said that the studio and the movie developers were listening to the desires of fans, and that Nathan Fillion might still be cast into the role of Drake, as the actor was being backed with lots of petitions and by plenty of groups on the web.

So, it would seem that Naughty Dog and David O. Russel realized that the details leaked were doing a lot of harm to the project, and were at the moment reconsidering pretty much everything about the Uncharted movie.
