After a number of retailers have offered information saying that Ghost Recon: Future Soldier offers split-screen support for cooperative play in the campaign of the shooter, publisher Ubisoft has apologized and updated the feature list on all the affected sites.

Writing on the official forums of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier the development team stated, “We’ve been made aware of the presence of outdated information on UbiShop and several retailer sites stating split screen, cooperative play is available in Ghost Recon Future Soldier’s campaign. We have ensured the information has been updated on the sites affected by this.”

The apology adds, “Our customers are extremely important to us, and we hope you’ll accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience and frustration caused by this miscommunication. We will vigilantly work to avoid this problem in the future.”

The embarrassment for Ubisoft is huge because the wrong information about split-screen cooperative play was posted on the official UbiShop website, which gets its information directly from the development team.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier offers support for four-player cooperative play via online play and through LAN.

This has disappointed a segment of the player base that has long asked for local cooperative gameplay, which allows at least two players to share a room while playing and exchange banter.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is designed to bring the series into modernity, borrowing some elements from the Call of Duty playbook, and features a single-player story that tackles the problem of rogue nuclear warheads that are being tracked by a team of Ghost special soldiers.

The tactical elements of the franchise have also been somewhat limited in the new installment, which has provoked the reaction of the hardcore player base.

The game is now available on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 while those playing on the PC will need to wait until late June to get a port.
