U.S. Cellular and well-known mobile software developer Nuance have teamed up to offer the former’s subscribers a new Voice Mail to Text service.

The new service is based on Nuance’s Dragon Voicemail-to-Text platform, which is fully automated. With Voice Mail to Text U.S. Cellular subscribers will be able to read their voice messages via text message or email, on their mobile phone while on the move.

Another interesting capability of the service is the ability to filter important messages from the unimportant ones, allowing users to skip the usual steps required by any other standard voicemail service.

In addition, customers will be able to respond to voice mail via text or email much easier when they cannot use the “calling back” option.

It is also worth mentioning that the new Voice Mail to Text service makes it easier for users to search for specific voice mails. Voice Mail to Text also allows subscribers to listen to the original audio, if they require it.

“In today’s competitive mobile market, carriers need to offer their subscribers innovative services that deliver tangible, everyday value,” said John Pollard, general manager and vice president, voice to text services, Nuance Mobile.

For the tech-savyy, Nuance explains that the technology used to power U.S. Cellular’s “Voice Mail to Text” service features the same core speech technology embedded in its popular Dragon Mobile apps and Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

“Voice Mail to Text” service is available for free for the first 30 days to all U.S. Cellular’s subscribers. After the trial period expires, customers will have to pay a $2.99 monthly fee.

“Our customers are busy and always on the go, and want to stay connected to their friends and family. With our new Voice Mail to Text service, our customers can get more done quickly and get back to what’s most important to them,” said Jennifer Micek, senior director of the product group for U.S. Cellular.
