Also thinking about movies

Star Wars is one of the best known movie series in the world and one of the most successful. It has also managed to spawn a whole universe of books, action figures, magazines and loyal fans. Traveller's Tales understood the potential of Star Wars but knew that creating a game set in that universe would require something special, an idea that would make the release stand out through more than the simple use of the Star Wars name.

In an unusual move for a developer, they bought publisher Giant Interactive, which had the rights to the LEGO intellectual property. Then, Traveller's Tales developed and self published LEGO Star Wars, creating a series of games that have sold more than 15 million copies world wide at the moment.

The game took something everyone knew and twisted everything around by creating the whole universe out of LEGO blocks. Gamers were impressed by the way it looked, the puzzles and the humor that the developers injected in it. After LEGO Star Wars and its sequel, Indiana Jones, got the LEGO treatment, a LEGO Batman game is set to launch.

Jon Burton, president of Traveller's Tales, talked to Variety about his company and their plans for the future, revealing that Warner Bros., which have a controlling stake in the company, allow them to use their vast intellectual property catalog to make "some LEGO games", although no specific names were offered. Also the developer is thinking of "making a kids' TV show... using some of the tech we've developed for games. In the mid-distance, personally, to be able to dabble around in CG and film would be interesting, and Warner allows me to push in those directions without 'quitting the day job' so to speak".

So, be on the lookout for more LEGO brick action from Traveller's Tales. I'd personally really want to see a LEGO Matrix game.
