Once more, with feeling: comedian Tracy Morgan is really trying to make amends and send the message across that he knows he was wrong when he made a series of very hurtful and offensive homophobic comments during a recent standup show. So, he’s apologizing again.

Scandal broke over the weekend, when reports began to surface in the media that Morgan had made very offensive homophobic comments during a standup number last week.

Among other things, he said he’d kill his son if he was gay and would come out to him, and that there was no such thing as bullying – there were only people complaining about it because they weren’t men enough.

He later apologized for the offensive tirade but GLAAD, the leading rights group for the community, did not accept the apology, so Morgan is doing it all over again.

“I guess the reason I am successful is because I am so unfiltered. And sometimes as a result I say really stupid [stuff],” Morgan says in the beginning of his new apology to Global Grind.

“The truth is if I had a gay son, I would love him just as much as if he was straight... I might have to try to love even more because I know of the difficulty that he would have in society,” the comedian adds.

He then goes on to say that none of the things he said onstage reflect what he truly believes.

“Of all the sicknesses, there is probably none more abusive than homophobia. My heart is committed to giving everyone the same rights that I deserve for myself,” Morgan explains, adding that love is – and should be – the only thing that ever matters.

“I am deeply sorry for the comments I made. What I am most sad about is the comments I made about kids and bullying. I would never want any young person to think that I wasn’t on their side,” he adds.

Morgan also insists that his second (and more heartfelt, according to some) apology has nothing to do with his fear that NBC might fire him because of the homophobic rant.

Neither is he looking for sympathy – he knew what he did was terribly wrong. For more on this here
