The new TG01 Windows phone

Toshiba TG01 is already available for purchase on the market, based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system, yet it seems that its maker has other great plans for it. The company announced that it would launch a new version of the device, the TG01 Windows phone, based on the upcoming Windows Mobile 6.5 flavor of the Microsoft platform. The new version is set to come to the market on October 6, announced the maker, and it should become available around Europe.

In addition to the new version of TG01, Toshiba also announced that the already existing variant of the phone is eligible for upgrade to the upcoming Windows Mobile 6.5 flavor, and that will come to TG01 owners at no cost. According to the company, the fully-certified TG01 Windows phone will deliver a wide range of great features to its users, including a finger-friendly start menu and a new Home screen, as well as a fun and interactive navigation between applications.

As many of you might already know, the Toshiba TG01 comes to the market with the high-power Snapdragon 1GHz processor, which will be also included in the new Windows phone, along with a 4.1-inch WVGA touchscreen display that boasts a 800 x 480 pixel resolution, integrated GPS and A-GPS technology, a sleek 9.9mm body, rich multimedia features, coupled with the new Windows phone experience, as well as a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space (an 8GB microSD card included in the package).

Other specifications of the upcoming TG01 Windows phone include a 3.2-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus, 512MB ROM / 256MB RAM, Bluetooth v2.0, USB v2.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g connectivity, support for 850/900/1800/1900 for GSM/GPRS/EDGE and 2100 for UMTS/HSDPA (7.2Mbps)/HSUPA (2Mbps) frequencies, SMS, MMS, E-mail, Microsoft Direct Push e-mail, Windows Live Messenger, and a 1,000mAh battery that can deliver up to 4 hours of talk time and up to 220 hours of standby time. The owners of a Toshiba TG01 will be able to download and update to the new Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system from the company's website.
