Three months ago, Toshiba came out and turned a few heads, or more, by unveiling the Canvio series of portable hard disk drives. These storage devices were interesting, and still are in fact, because they have high capacities, at least compared to competing products. Now, their maker has decided to expand the series by adding a trio of new members, only this time intended for electronics made by Apple. In other words, the three newest Canvio HDDs are intended for use with Mac systems.

In order to be compatible, aesthetically, with Apple's computers, the new Canvio drives are available in two colors, namely Infinite White and Radiant Silver. The capacity options available are the same 500GB, 750GB and 1TB that the originals also feature, and their platters' rotary speed is of 5,400 RPM. Furthermore, Toshiba threw in 8MB of buffer memory and compatibility with USB 2.0 ports. As for security, they are all pre-loaded with NTI Shadow 5, a software that provides synchronization, backup and recovery possibilities, as well as 256-bit AES encryption.

“Toshiba develops personal storage devices that combine the latest, high quality designs with top-notch performance and an intuitive, easy to use interface,” said Manuel Camarena, product manager for consumer storage at Toshiba Storage Device Division. “Our Canvio for Mac products give Mac users a safe, convenient, and truly portable solution for backing up their digital entertainment, documents, and other content instantly.”

As an added bonus, Toshiba designed the product packaging with 100 percent recyclable materials. Apple customers eager to get their hands on either of the three plug and play-ready portable HDDs need only drop by Toshiba's official website by following this link. The 500GB drive sells for $119.99, whereas the 750GB model and 1TB version are priced at $139.99 and $189.99, respectively.
