TomTom, a provider of navigation solutions and digital maps, has announced the immediate availability of its TomTom Car Kit for iPhone. The device provides a safe driving experience while enhancing your in-car navigation journey, according to TomTom, which encourages customers to hit the TomTom web store and Apple online store starting today for the purchase of a TomTom Car Kit for iPhone.

“With TomTom car kit for iPhone, we offer cutting-edge features which allow the most optimised driving and navigation experience with iPhone” Benoit Simeray, vice-president Mobile On-Board at TomTom, said. “It was designed with safety and quality in mind to offer iPhone users the best in car experience.”

Speaking of the TomTom Car Kit for iPhone key features, the company points out to the secure mount with a unique design that docks the iPhone to the desired position on the car's windshield or dashboard, using a twist-and-lock motion. An adjustable mount securely rotates the iPhone to either portrait or landscape mode for an optimal positioning and widescreen route display, TomTom explains, while the device can be easily removed with one twist upon arrival at a destination.

The built-in GPS receiver is said to effectively reduce the chance of the signal dropping out in areas where the GPS reception is limited, the report reveals. Good examples are cities with tall buildings or forested areas. A built-in loud speaker and microphone allow for clear voice instructions and hands-free calling while driving. Additional features include the ability to also charge the device while in use, as well as the ability to play music through the aux-out port over the car’s stereo.

While TomTom notes that its Car Kit for iPhone is compatible only with iPhone 3G and 3GS, interested parties should also note that the TomTom application is not included in the car kit. Instead, users must download the compatible software from the App Store. There’s one for each territory supported, including TomTom U.S. & Canada, TomTom Western Europe, TomTom Australia, TomTom France, TomTom U.K. & Ireland, and lots more. The pricey apps range between $79.99 and $139.99. Also, the apps require an iPhone model running OS 3.0 or later. As for the TomTom Car Kit, it retails for 99,99 euros.

US customers will be able to purchase the system in the near future, according to TomTom.
