Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless is on the verge of announcing the release of its first handset to sport LTE (Long Term Evolution) connectivity, and some more info on the device emerged, along with a load of photos to show us what to expect for when the launch will take place.

Previously spotted into the wild as the HTC Mecha or Incredible HD, the mobile phone is called Thunderbolt now, with great chances to sport this name when pushed to the market in January.

According to a recent article on Androidos.in, it's almost certain that Verizon will use this name for the handset, as it already filed a trademark application for this name.

However, this would be only the first LTE mobile phone that the wireless carrier would launch next year, since more of them are expected to arrive on shelves at the company later in 2011.

The Verizon Thunderbolt was already spotted in some leaked photos before, though only parts of them were shown at the time.

The new images, available courtesy of Droid-Life, show it entirely, and offer us the possibility to have a closer look at what Verizon customers should get in a matter of weeks.

What's very interesting is that the mobile phone resembles a lot with an already existing Android mobile phone from Taiwanese manufacturer HTC Corporation, namely with the HTC Desire HD.

Apparently, the new LTE-capable device sports a screen of the same size as the Desire HD, namely 4.3-inches, along with the Android 2.2 OS from Google, and an 8-megapixel photo snapper with dual-LED flash on the back.

But this is not all, of course, as the new handset should also arrive on shelves with HTC Sense, a facing camera, 3.5 mm headphone jack and with a kickstand on the back.

The official announcement on this device is expected to take place at CES 2011 next week, and all of the necessary info on the mobile phone would be unveiled at that time. Keep an eye on this space for more.
