About 30,000 bees attacked a couple in Pantego, North Texas, stinging them and killing 2 miniature horses. Kristen Beauregard says the attack was completely unprovoked, something ripped right out of “a bad movie,” the Star-Telegram reports.

Beauregard was stung about 200 times as she tried to run away from the bees, believed to be Africanized (or “killer”) bees because of their aggressive behavior.

Her boyfriend, whose identity she refused to make public, was also stung about 50 times.

The two miniature horses they were out exercising at the time of the attack were not lucky to survive: even though firefighters arrived immediately and sprayed gas and foam to clear the bees, by the time a veterinarian also arrived, it was too late.

“It got all dark, like it was nighttime there were so many bees,” Beauregard said of the attack, and how she and one pony tried to save themselves by jumping in the pool.

“We were trying to stand up in the water but every time we stuck our heads out for air, they would cover us and start stinging us. We were trying to breathe and they were stinging us in the face and in the nose,” she recalled.

Beauregard and her boyfriend escaped by running into the house.
