Marvel Comics along with SEGA have revealed the video game based on the Thor 2011 movie. It will be third person action adventure title in which will players will assume control of the God of Thunder himself. He will have to face various ancient enemies inspired by the Norse mythology using his legendary hammer, Mjolnir. The title will be launched in 2011 on the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3, the Nintendo Wii, the Nintendo DS and the PlayStation Portable.

The superhero character will have access to different elemental powers and battle strategies, according to VG247. Mjolnir, for example, will allow the use of storm powers like the wind, the thunder and the lightning. As with almost every action title of this generation, there will be light role playing game elements that will let Thor acquire new attacks and powers, as well as upgrades to existing ones through Valor points earned through combat.

“We are proud to be bringing Thor to his first solo video game adventure”, said Gary Knight, senior vice president of marketing at Sega. “Thor: The Video Game will finally bring the immense power of this iconic hero to lifelong fans, and introduce the God of Thunder to a whole new audience as a true Marvel Super Hero.” In the game, Thor fights his way through the numerous worlds of Norse mythology to save Asgard, the capital city of the Norse Gods. These realms range from primal worlds of fire and ice to extraordinary planets inhabited by Frost Giants and Trolls. Thor must overcome well known enemies like Ulik, Ymir, or Surtur.

The Wii version will take full advantage of the motion controls available and will have a different art style, suited to the technological limitations of the console. This comic-book-inspired look will be shared with the PlayStation Portable. Nintendo DS owners will get a two-dimensional side-scrolling adventure that the developers are promising will contain a “narrative and gameplay unique to the platform.”
