Edge (still called Spartan in this build) is default browser

Microsoft announced at BUILD 2015 that its new browser would be called Edge, thus dropping the Spartan moniker that everyone loved since its public reveal in January.

Edge is becoming the default browser across all versions of Windows 10, be they supposed to be installed on PCs or on mobile devices, and Windows 10 for phones preview build 10080 is no exception.

The build that Microsoft rolled out only a few hours ago comes with Spartan browser configured as the default app to navigate the web, but keep in mind that the company hasn't yet renamed it Edge. Spartan is the internal codename of Edge and is expected to be renamed in future builds.

Very fast and stable

Although Windows 10 Mobile build 10080 comes with several bugs, thus being pretty difficult to be used as the mainly driver right now, it appears that Spartan browser is quite a fast and stable application, and we must admit that we're impressed.

The app feels fast and very reliable, and browsing appears to be much easier than in Internet Explorer in Windows Phone.

There are options to manage tabs, add websites to favorites, share them, enable reading list mode, and change several settings, including the default reading view style and reading view font size.

You can also block cookies, send Do Not Track requests, speed up browsing by enabling the feature that predicts the net page, and use flip ahead and turn on the SmartScreen Filter.

The Hub provides one-tap access to favorites, websites saved for the reading list, downloads, and history, so you can easily manage all your content from a single place.

The share button, however, doesn't seem to work in build 10080, but this might be a bug, so expect it to be fixed in the next versions of Windows 10 Mobile preview.

All in all, Spartan browser, which will soon be renamed Edge, feels much better than Internet Explorer, and luckily, it could become a lot better than that in the coming months.
