Hearts of Iron III is still one of the most interesting grand strategy games in the line-up of publisher Paradox Interactive and the company is ready to deliver even more content for it three years after launch via an all-new expansion called Their Finest Hour.

This is the third full expansion for the strategy title and the focus will be on delivering some core new mechanics for the game while also giving fans an entirely new way of simply jumping into the various scenarios in order to play directly.

The main feature of Their Finest Hour expansion is a new strategic warfare mode that allows players to have more control over the way they handle the various fronts they are engaged on, while also giving them a simpler way of helping their allies by just diverting some of their industrial power towards a lend and lease program.

Hearts of Iron III will also get a new mode called Battle Plans, designed to allow gamers to try and use historical battle plans during their games that will also allow the community to draw up new plans and then share them around in real time during multiplayer games.

A new extended espionage system will also be introduced, with more missions and the ability to run some of them directly on the map, influencing the way tactical plans are implemented.

Each of the armies of big countries, from Nazi Germany to the United States, will get some new elite units, including Imperial Gaurds, Rangers and Gurkas (it’s not yet clear how the Waffen SS can be handled with this system).

Leaders will play a bigger role in Their Finest Hour, as they can gain traits and need to be used effectively.

The new custom game mode will allow players to start out with a clean slate for any country and decide which units to produce and which politics to alight with before the game actually starts.

Hearts of Iron III also gets two new battle scenarios, called Spanish Civil War and Russo-Finish Winter War.
