Just after the developer at CD Projekt RED have announced full details about the launch date for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and detailed the various editions that customers can pre order the game has moved on to the second position in the Steam best seller chart, with the Director's Cut version of the original titles also coming in at seven.

All the listings are accurate as of Friday afternoon when this piece of news has been posted and could change dramatically over the weekend, as more fans of The Witcher move in to pre order it.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is offered by Steam with a 10 percent price cut for those who pick it up before the launch date, which might be one of the reasons for its popularity.

It's interesting to note that the Digital Premium edition is the one blazing up the Steam chart.

Gamers who get it now also get a number of extra pieces of content, including the soundtrack, a digital version of the world map and a game guide.

The Director's Cut edition of the first Witcher is also performing well, suggesting that newcomers are interested in the sequel and are willing to spend some money to see how the series has evolved so far.

Those who do not want to order from Steam have the options of going to GOG.com, the game sales site which is maintained by CD Projekt, where they can get The Witcher 2 without any DRM measures, with those who pre order getting their choice of a free older title also in the role playing tradition.

At the moment the pre order site seems to be getting hammered by eager fans.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is set to be released on the PC on May 17.

The developers had previously talked about an earlier date but pushed it back a little in order to make sure that all the finishing touches are added to the game.
