The senior producer of The Witcher 2, Tomasz Gop, talked recently about the new monsters and the boss battles that will be in the upcoming role-playing game, which is currently being polished up by the team at CD Projekt Red.

The original Witcher impressed lots of players with its interesting story and the deep role-playing game mechanics, despite some rather serious flaws that were patched over time.

Now, for the second title, the developers at CD Projekt Red are trying to really take things to a new level, and already talked about quite a few things, from the length of the campaign to the new combat system.

Now, Tomasz Gop, the senior producer of the title, has detailed some of the monsters that will be encountered by the main character of the game, Geralt, and how many are inspired by the actual Witcher books written by Polish novelist Andrzej Sapkowski.

"Obviously we'll have monsters that are totally new, not present in The Witcher 1. And we have some old monsters as well. For example a drawner will reappear. And the main source of inspiration for sure, is the world created by Andrzej Sapkowski."

"There is a short story where a peasant got into trouble near the bridge and Geralt saved him from small monsters. So this story was an inspiration for us while creating nekkers. They are not exactly how those monsters were described but they were our inspiration."

"For sure there are also other sources and monsters not mentioned in books like a cursed field where warriors fight forever. That flaming monster is totally of our creation. Tentadrake on the other hand is by Andrzej Sapkowski," Gop said.

Geralt will have multiple ways of dealing with the aforementioned monsters, as he can methodically cut them down to size or use certain quick time events, to quickly turn the tide of the battle.

"Let's remember a fight with Tentadrake," Gop said. "You can kill it in a general way by cutting his tentacles just one by one and after that finish the monster off. But if you want to kill him in another way you will have some QTE. And you will get a chance to finish the fight earlier. So all bosses will have such alternative ways of killing them."

Look forward to The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings arriving exclusively on the PC on May 17.
