Is Nintendo satisfied with these figures or not?

Another opportunity to use my favorite phrase concerning the company making the Wii and the DS: Can Nintendo ever fail? Not now anyway. Recent figures posted by Next Gen say that more than 6.5 million Wii units have been sold worldwide since its launch in late November and that Japan alone bought two million since April 13th, but it's still not catching up to the PS2. The site said: "The Wii reached the milestone in about 19 weeks, not quite beating the speedy sales of the PlayStation2, which sold the same amount in the 15 weeks after its launch."

But just as I was thinking how many times I was going to use that phrase in the future, this next question popped out: how much longer does the Wii have if newer and more "mature" titles don't hit the console. It's clear that the Wii's success is due to a high demand amongst youngsters, so - as long as we have kids on the planet - there's no reason for Nintendo to panic. However, Nintendo hasn't made any announcements regarding next year's titles and Wii Sports alone can't sell the console anymore. Plus, Wii shortages led to a good amount of customers going for something else. Some probably still wait for retailers to get them. It looks like the company is satisfied with the current figures.

The bottom line is this: Nintendo has the perfect recipe for "fun." With figures such as those above, it's clear that Nintendo's still on the right track with the Wii and the only thing the company has to worry about is beating its own Nintendo DS in sales. OK, maybe Microsoft's 360 has a shot at winning the console wars but not if Nintendo keeps the Wii fueled with titles for another great year. Nintendo's doing a good thing with their console: keeping the world we live in a fun place to be. Everytime I take on my PS2 for a go, I find that some games are more difficult and less fun to play (it may have something to do with the fact that I can't stand lower levels of difficulty than "ace," "ultra hard," or "are you out of your mind?"). Why don't I get a Wii to relieve the stress?
