It brings new weapons, new missions and a level cap beyond 50

Borderlands came out at the end of 2009, like a lot of other amazing games. After Gearbox has already given the title two DLCs, in the form of The Zombie Island of Doctor Ned, a more single-player oriented DLC, and Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, the game's developer has just recently announced a third DLC to be on the way. The developer was pretty scant on details at the time of that first announcement, not even having a name to give to it, but the DLC had today its official unveiling.

The Secret Armory of General Knoxx is the new additional content pack to come to Borderlands, and while it still doesn't have an estimated time of arrival, Gearbox did say that the pack would be released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, just like the others were, with the PC version of it arriving the last one most likely, just like the others. The Secret Armory will bring new enemies and a lot of new missions, being labeled as the biggest DLC so far.

But more importantly, it will add even more weapons to the game's insanely vast arsenal, as well as raise the level cap beyond 50. Gearbox also revealed two screenshots for the DLC, and while one of them reminds us of the Terran Marine, but high on steroids, the other one looks like the antlions level from Half-Life 2.

Beyond this, the studio has nothing more to offer. All we can do now is get back in the game, bring up the character sheet, grab a pen and paper and start planning our characters for a level-50+ build. While a level-cap increase usually also brings new skills, this wouldn't necessary mean the same for Borderlands. There were more skills available than we could spend in the original game, so there wouldn't be any need to add new ones. Even at level 60, or further on, we won't be able to max out our skill counter, but even so, we can still dream that The Secret Armory of General Knoxx will also feature additional skills. Who knows, maybe our sleep-talk will be heard by Gearbox.
