While Sony is working hard on expanding its business with the introduction of the PlayStation Network or other Sony devices, Nintendo has decided that it's time for it to take a more serious look at the future as well, and not just be content with saying what its next consoles won't do. As such, while talking to the Asahi Shimbun newspaper, Nintendo's President, Satoru Iwata, revealed several interesting and existing news concerning the company's projects.

The first thing on the list was the evolution of its handheld console, as the DS successor will apparently be a match for today's Wii. According to Iwata, the next DS will have “highly detailed graphics, and it will be necessary to have a sensor with the ability to read the movements of people playing.” But to what degree the handheld will support motion sensing he did not specify, as, considering the current outstanding performance of the DS, a replacement for it isn't exactly a priority.

Other news Iwata revealed concerned the Wii, and, more specifically, the next installment in the Zelda saga on the console. While Eiji Aonuma hinted in the past that the new game could show its face for the first time this year at the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo that would be held between June 15 and June 17, Iwata gave a more specific time frame. According to him, the next Zelda will be ready for release at the end of October.

The last thing that Nintendo's president told Asahi Shimbun was that the quirky Wii peripheral, the Vitality Sensor, was in the last stages of production and that the company was working to get it out as soon as possible, but also that it was expected to have software support in July. No further details were given regarding these games, but, if this is designed to work as a main controller for a title, then developers are going to have to be very creative. Besides a survival horror that challenges players to stay calm in the face of overwhelming terrors, there aren't a lot of options for the VS.
