Not that it comes as a huge surprise, but fans really loved the first look at “The Avengers,” with the first official teaser trailer. It broke download records on iTunes, which can only mean one thing: the movie will be huge.

MovieFone reports that over 10 million downloads of the trailer were registered in the first day of release.

That great an interest can only mean that the movie will be next year’s biggest summer blockbuster, the e-zine believes.

“In 24 hours following its debut on Tuesday, the promotional clip for the Joss Whedon-directed film was downloaded 10 million times on iTunes,” MF reports.

“That breaks the previous record for Apple downloads, and likely points to a ridiculous box-office haul for ‘The Avengers’ next May. That’s something Disney and Paramount can get behind!” adds the same e-zine.

“The Avengers” includes all the superhero in previous, comic book-based Marvel films. If it’s to have the success equal to the sum of all parts, it might even take down “Avatar” as the highest grossing film in the history of cinematography.

Either way, only time can tell.

Starring Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, “The Avengers” sees the world’s greatest superheroes join forces to protect our planet from unspeakable danger.

As the trailer says, if they fail in this mission, of saving Earth, they will at least try to avenge it.

Directed by Joss Whedon, “The Avengers” has wrapped shooting and is now in post production. It arrives in movie theaters around the world starting May 2012.

Until then, check out the trailer below if you’re one of the few who still haven’t seen it.
