Tellme Networks announced the launch of a free service that provides users with new ways to search for information they need from the mobile phone. Tellme allows consumers to perform searches by speaking or typing their query, after which they can choose to hear the result or view it on the mobile's display.

"Tellme's vision for mobile search is simple - you should be able to just say what you want and get it. We want people to be able to search from any phone the way that works best for them. The phone was designed for speaking rather than typing, so we focus on the natural phone interface - your voice," said Mike McCue, CEO of Tellme. "Web searches are often for browsing, but phone searches are about completing tasks and quickly finding what you want, connecting to it and completing a transaction, whether it's ordering a pizza, buying flowers or purchasing a movie ticket."

The service provided by Tellme can be accessed in three ways. The first way, Tellme by Voice, requires users to call 1-800-555-TELL and say "business search", in order to find a business listing or search for a particular category, such as "flower shops," including a map for the selected listing. Callers can also choose from other services like movie tickets, ringtones, sports, news and more.

For times when users prefer not to speak their query, there is Tellme by Text. Consumers send a text message to TELLM (83556) with a business request such as "starbucks san francisco ca" or "pizza boston ma" and get a text message back with the listing and a link to a map.

Users who want to download a voice and visual application can use Tellme by Mobile. The application allows consumers to speak a request and then select and view the results right on their mobile phone's screen. This is especially useful for driving directions and other hard to remember search results. Users are also given the possibility to share the results with friends in the form of text messages. The Tellme by Mobile application can be downloaded from HERE.
