TeliaSonera, the joint-venture between the Telia and Sonera telecom companies, has recently announced the availability of the first commercial 4G services in Denmark. Currently the services will be available in four Danish cities: Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense and Aalborg.

However, the company stated that the rollout of the Danish 4G network will continue and that it plans to cover 75% of the Danish population in 2011.

“We are proud to be the first operator in Denmark to offer our customers 4G. We launch 4G in the largest Danish cities, where there is a high demand for fast mobile broadband services. We have an aggressive rollout plan for 4G and expect to cover 75 per cent of the population during 2011,” says Jesper Brøckner Nielsen, Head of TeliaSonera Mobility Services in Denmark.

TeliaSonera was the first operator in the world to launch 4G services commercially. Currently the company offers LTE services to its customers in four countries: Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark.

Furthermore, the company said that there are more than 20 cities in the Nordic countries that have 4G services with speeds up to ten times higher than in turbo 3G technology.

The following commercial offers are available for Danish consumers who wish to benefit from the high speeds of the new service:

- “Op til 80 Mbit/s” costs €54 and provides up to 80 Mbps, with an expected speed of 10-40 Mbps, and a fair usage limitation of 30 GB. - “Op til 20 Mbit/s” costs €41 and provides 10-20 Mbps with a fair usage limitation of 20 GB.

The 4G modems are supplied by Samsung in the form of an USB dongle and can be purchased for €68.

TeliaSonera's 4G radio network is known to be supplied by Ericsson in the Nordic and Baltic countries.
