The media has been paying a lot of attention to tablets lately, especially their hardware and the OS, but it looks like some apps are also standing out, such as the Zinio for Android.

The Android market for apps may not be close to how large the Apple App store is, but the number of apps sold through it is steadily growing.

In fact, there are even some that have caught the eyes of the media, such as the Zinio for Android, developed by the company with the same name (Zinio).

What the app does is optimize the performance of the operating system on those products built with the NVIDIA Tegra chip.

Slates are already used for such things as reading magazines, watching videos, web browsing and a lot of other things.

Unfortunately, performance isn't exactly consistent from tablet to tablet and from program to program, with zooming, page navigation and text scrolling sometimes running well and sometimes not so well. The new Zinio app should be able to make things rum more smoothly.

"We're always looking for ways to improve the Zinio user experience, and integrating NVIDIA's incredible graphics processing capabilities was a no-brainer," said Rich Maggiotto, Zinio President and CEO.

"Close cooperation between the two companies harnessed the power of Tegra to provide incredibly smooth page turning, zooming and panning capabilities for our Android users."

For those that don't remember, the Motorola Xoom and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 are just two of the tablets set to benefit.

"Zinio has an extensive collection of rich and interactive magazines," said Neil Trevett, Vice President of Mobile Content at NVIDIA. "By optimizing performance for Tegra-based tablets, Zinio and NVIDIA are delivering an amazing reading experience."

Three of the latest issues of theESPN, Harper's Bazaar and Popular Science magazines will be given, for free, to all those who download the Zinio for Android.
