With so many tablets running around the worldwide market, it stands to reason that accessories for them would become a business in their own right, thought it looks like Voltaic did something fairly unusual compared to everyone else.

Whenever a consumer electronic type becomes popular enough, one can be sure that there would be a whole bunch of supplementary products designed for it.

Currently, tablets are the ones taking up most of the attention of the consumer base, what with them being portable multimedia devices with extras.

Samsung is just one company that has prepared a whole line of accessories for its slate (Galaxy tab 10.1).

Now, Voltaic has created one of its own, although it should be able to lend its services to any slate out there.

More specifically, the outfit designed a special case, called Spark, which taps into the power of the sun and recharges the slate inside it.

One 8W solar panel (can switch between one of 6V and one of 12V) rests on the back, being water resistant and capable of finishing tis task in about 10 hours (under direct sunlight) although an USB port makes it possible to charge it at home as well.

In fact, when using both solutions, two tablets can be revitalized at once, while five adapters increase compatibility beyond what the two USB connectors provide.

“Voltaic set out to design a lightweight case that could charge a tablet quickly, but also match the sleekness and simplicity of the many of the tablets,” said Shayne McQuade, CEO of Voltaic Systems. “The Spark Solar Case is a powerful and compact way to carry and charge an iPad.”

To sum up, the Voltaic Spark is primarily intended for tablets, but the adapters can let it charge other things, like digital cameras.

Interested users will have to part with $299, plus an extra $99 for more battery packs.
