Canadian mobile phone carrier TELUS is gearing up for the release of some very appealing new devices, including new smartphones running under Google's Android platform, or some tablet PCs, such as the BlackBerry PlayBook.

The company reportedly confirmed that the Nexus S would become available for purchase on its airwaves in the not too far future, something that was somehow expected.

All operators in Canada are expected to add the Google phone to their offering, and TELUS was among the first to confirm the move, it seems.

Powered by Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, the new device would offer a wide range of features to those who would purchase it, along with enhanced web browsing and multimedia capabilities.

The smartphone includes a 1 GHz Hummingbird processor inside, a 4-inch touchscreen display (800 x 480 pixel), 512MB RAM, 16GB of internal memory, NFC capabilities, a 5-megapixel photo snapper with video recording, Wifi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, 3G and a 1500 mAh battery inside.

The wireless carrier did not offer specific info on when would the new device become available for purchase on its airwaves, nor on the price tag it might feature, but did say that it should not be too long before its customers would be able to purchase it.

Another appealing device that should make an appearance on TELUS' airwaves soon would be the BlackBerry PlayBook, Research In Motion's first tablet PC, which is powered by a QNX-based platform.

Apparently, TELUS SMB customers were recently informed on the fact that the wireless carrier is holding a special event for the launch of PlayBook on March 22nd.

This does not mean that the PlayBook would go on sale on that day, but TELUS should offer more info on its plans for the device at that time, while expected to unveil some other RIM products as well during the event. Stay tuned for more on this.
