There is no surprise that T-Mobile is getting a new Sidekick, namely the 'iD', and the mobile operator has already announced the device and revealed most of its capabilities. The handset was designed to bring the same appealing looks, signature swivel screen and form factor as the previous Sidekicks, while compromising a little bit on the features in order to come with a lower price tag.

While it has 'lost' the MP3 player, camera and Bluetooth, its price tag also went down significantly, costing a mere $99 (half the price). Its users will still get the email and messaging capabilities and web browsing. Users that don't really value a camera and would rather keep their iPod for listening to music, instead of their mobile phone, and now save a lot of money by getting the lite version of the Sidekick.

"The T-Mobile Sidekick has always been about freedom of expression and communicating with style," said Greg Andrews, director, marketing, T-Mobile USA. "With the T-Mobile Sidekick iD, we're expanding on the theme of individuality by increasing the personalization aspect and providing pricing that is accessible to a wide range of consumers."

The Sidekick iD's feature set includes a 1.4 inch 65k color screen with a 240 x 160 pixel resolution, full HTML web browse, QWERTY keyboard for faster, easier message composing, support for three major instant messaging clients (Yahoo!, AIM and Windows Live Messenger), a trackball for one-handed navigation and myFaves support. It measures 5.12 x 2.48 x 0.87 inches, weighs 6.2 ounces and will be available in quite a few color varieties including black, yellow, blue, white, purple and glow-in-the-dark.
