Symwave has already established partnerships with Seagate, OCZ and LaCie for the development of USB 3.0 devices and has now ramped up its efforts by announcing a device developed along with Super Talent. The two companies combined Symwave's storage technology with Super Talent's own flash storage solutions in order to bring about the improvement of the USB 3.0 RAIDDrive.

“Super Talent continues their leadership in USB drives by delivering the world’s first mobile USB 3.0 flash drive,” said John O’Neill, Vice President of Marketing at Symwave. “By combining their patented technology with our SW6318 device, the industry’s first and highest performance RAID storage controller, Super Talent has delivered a new generation of flash drives with truly jaw-dropping performance.”

The Mobile USB 3.0 RAIDDrive measures 3.75 x 1.5 x 0.5 inches and achieves unprecedented results by combining parallel NAND channels in a configuration capable of doubling the performance (RAID0). The device is designed with portability in mind and requires no additional power source besides what is supplied by the USB ports themselves.

The product is, obviously, designed for optimum data transfer speeds when plugged into the USB 3.0 interface, but, as expected, provides backward compatibility with the USB 2.0 technology. The drive will come in storage capacities of 32GB, 54GB and 128GB and will leverage the capabilities of Symwave's SW6318 storage controller.

“Symwave’s SW6318 device was the obvious choice for our new line of SuperSpeed USB 3.0 mobile storage products,” said C.H. Lee, Chief Operating Officer at Super Talent Technology. “Our USB 3.0 RAIDDrive, based on Symwave’s SW6318 device, delivers phenomenal performance of more than 300 MB/sec.”

The upgraded USB 3.0 RAIDDrive will be showcased during the Consumer Electronics Show between January 7 and January 10. A video of the benchmark may be found here.
