Actor talks “New Moon,” fans and love of acting

It’s not only Robert Pattinson that can sit for the most beautiful photospreads, “Twilight” fans of what has come to be known as Team Jacob would say in light of Taylor Lautner’s latest spread for Teen Vogue. He’s still young, but this is one star that will shine brighter than ever in the years to come, the magazine says in the article accompanying the amazing shot by Bruce Webber.

With his piercing, dark gaze under arched, dark eyebrows, that perfect smile and the manly arms that hide countless hours spent in the gym pumping iron for the part of Jacob Black in “New Moon,” Taylor seems miles apart from the boy who starred in “Twilight.” His reputation has also known an incredible boost, as fans who became acquainted with his character got to know more of him thanks to Stephenie Meyer’s books, which is how he now has a fanbase almost as large and loyal (if such a thing is even possible) as Robert Pattinson’s.

Speaking of fans, there is one type of girl that Lautner sees as on Team Jacob, Teen Vogue writes. “According to Taylor, there is a very specific sort of girl who’s going to sign up for what’s become known to Twilight fans as Team Jacob. ‘If she likes having a really close friendship with a guy,’ he begins, ‘being able to tell him anything, and then having that friendship slowly transform into something more...’ The seventeen-year-old stops himself and laughs. ‘I find myself using the word transform a lot lately,’ he explains, ‘because that’s what Jacob does.’” goes the piece in the magazine.

Clearly, even those fans who haven’t read the books know that some sort of transformation awaits Jacob, as they learned from the Meet Jacob Black trailer Summit Entertainment released as the second official trailer for the film a short while ago. Jacob is a wolf now and his relationship with Bella Swan, who has been left behind by her immortal, vampire lover Edward Cullen, in a bid to protect her, will also suffer important changes. However, it’s playing a part that’s so different from him in real life that represents the main challenge and, at the same time, attraction for Lautner.

“I liked it.” the 17-year-old star says of his first acting gigs. “Taking on roles that were the opposite of what I could be in real life? That’s still my favorite thing.” he adds. There are things, though, that manage to mar his experience a bit, starting with the paparazzi camped outside his home. “There are twelve cars that camp outside my house. You can’t ever really get used to it, because it’s not normal to have people snapping pictures of everything you do. You just have to try not to let it affect you.” Taylor explains.
