Developer CD Projekt has stated that the main area of focus for the development of the upcoming action role playing game The Witcher 2 is still the narrative structure and the dialog, despite the improvements that are also being made to the engine, the game world and the structure of the combat.

Tomasz Gop, who is the senior producer working on The Witcher 2, has told Eurogamer that “If you like the first game we'd just like to assure you that the principles that made us make the first Witcher are still important to us.”

He added, “It was a story-driven game, and the second one is a story-driven game as well. It's the main feature of the game. The story is the ultimate feature.”

The fact that The Witcher 2 is non linear, a narrative oriented trait, was what motivated the development team to re design their entire engine from ground up, allowing them to deliver the experiences they wanted.

A new game engine also allows for the game to be and feel bigger, exploring more of the world created by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski and bringing a sense of scale to the experience.

Gop also talked about the role playing game market, saying that he does not see other titles, like the Dragon Age series created by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts, as rivals.

He believes that there is only a small number of titles on the market and that the RPG fan will probably pick up and play both Dragon Age 2 and The Witcher 2 when they come out.

The developers at The Witcher 2 are saying that they still have plans to deliver their new game for gaming consoles, although they cannot announce anything official at the moment.

The Witcher 2, with the full title Assassins of Kings, will again the monster hunger Gerald as the main character and will offer 16 possible endings.
