Since the year of 2010-2011 has not exactly been particularly friendly, the idea of an intercom system that would allow snowmobile drivers to communicate while riding their vehicles seems to be a fairly good idea, and that's exactly what the people over at Cardo Systems are offering with their brand-new scala rider G4 PowerSet.

The e corded scala rider G4 PowerSet consists of two pre-paired Bluetooth intercom devices that come with an ultra-thin corded microphone and can be attached to the safety helmets in quite a fast and easy manner.

It's also important to point out here that the corded microphone allows for easy maneuvering and can be adjusted according to rider's preference, while also sporting a water and weather resistant design (which is quite an important detail, given the specific segment it targets).

The Bluetooth system enables clear audio communications between two or three separate riders, or among four riders in total made up of two rider-passenger groups.

It's also quite important to point out the the conversations carried out via the intercom system are full duplex (simultaneous), and the scala rider G4 PowerSet also enables snowmobile drivers to answer phone calls.

However, the range of features provided by the scala rider system extends beyond phone calls, since each headset sports an embedded FM radio with RDS that allows seek and scan functions, as well as voice-recognition (for answering, dialing or rejecting calls) and AGC technology for automatic headset volume adjustments (based on ambient noise and driving speed).

Plus, users will also be able to pair the system with Bluetooth-enabled GPS navigators and receive navigation instructions directly in their helmets.

All in all, we're talking about a very advanced Bluetooth communication system, and for this reason, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that the scala rider G4 PowerSet from Cardo Systems sells for around $489.95.

Contrary to popular belief, this "snowmobile" version of the G4 is NOT the same as the motorcycle version with a corded mic. According to Cardo tech support, the snow version actually runs different software, and is not compatible with upgrades for the motorcycle version!

I am finding this out the hard way, as Cardo released a 3.0 upgrade back in March '11 that adds new features and bug fixes, but I'm sitting here mid-July still not able to apply that upgrade to my snowmobile set.
