Sony has confirmed that the Starhawk multiplayer beta stage is now open to all of its PlayStation 3 owners, meaning anyone can try out the upcoming sci-fi shooter before its release later this year.

Starhawk aims at taking the regular third person shooter gameplay and adding quite a few real time strategy mechanics, as players can build different structures while on the battlefield.

The game has already been tested during a closed beta at the end of 2011 and, last month, we saw the release of a public one, which was available, at first, only to those who got special copies of Uncharted 3 or those who had premium PlayStation Plus subscriptions.

Now, the Starhawk multiplayer beta is available to all PS3 owners, meaning anyone can now download it from the PlayStation Store.

Developer Lightbox Interactive has promised that lots of improvements will soon be made to the multiplayer beta, with things like a new map, new vehicles and weapons, not to mention matches that support up to 32 players, scheduled to appear in the next few weeks.

The studio has also shared some special tips with those that are now getting into the multiplayer experience, advising them to always be careful of their surroundings and to build structures only where they make sense.

Here's the full list of tips from Lightbox:

- Kill to build, build to kill. Kill enemies to get more Rift Energy to build more stuff to kill more enemies. - Shoot glowing Rift barrels to collect more Rift Energy. - Do not repeatedly build the same structures. Things like Garages or Launch Pads allow you to create new vehicles without building a new structure. - If you stay in the vicinity of your base area and Rift Extractor you will auto-magically collect Rift energy. - Each structure does something specific. Discover its purpose! - Most all the structures have a glowing yellow panel. If you go up to one, you will be prompted to either create a new vehicle or remove the building. Removing repeated buildings is a great way to ease the strain on your structure cap. - Use microphones for the best experience….and sometimes to learn a few new words. - Pick your Skill wisely. You can also change them during a match during respawn. Remember that you need enough XP points and the listed prerequisite for a Skill to unlock. The beta doesn’t have an end date, at least for now, but you can expect it to conclude before the release of the final game, on May 8, exclusively for the PS3.
