Starbreeze CEO and president Mikael Nermark has talked about his studio's latest game, Syndicate, and how, even if sales and critical acclaim weren't exactly up to par, he's quite happy with the finished product, especially its co-op mode.

Syndicate appeared earlier this year on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms, offering a first-person shooter take on the classic strategy series owned by Electronic Arts.

While many diehard Syndicate fans may have not approved of this change, the game experienced decent sales and gained some good reviews.

Mikael Nermark, the boss of Starbreeze, the game's developer, says that while the result may have not impressed that many people, he is quite happy with the finished product.

"Personally, I've never been satisfied with any games I've worked on. I never play my own games," Nermark told Joystiq. "I was brought into Starbreeze two and a half years ago, and the first year I worked on other things than on production. But what I saw coming out of this long production time, I'm proud of what we did at Starbreeze."

Nermark believes that Syndicate truly shined when it came to its cooperative mode, although the overall difficulty was a bit high.

"The co-op part is fantastic to me I think it's a lot of fun to play," the Starbreeze boss added. "I think it may be too hard. I'm one of those guys that wants it harder, harder, harder, right? So I think we made it maybe too hard, and we didn't really ... we should've thought about the player more. It's a game made for you to play with your friends, who you really know, 'cause it's truly a cooperative play, rather than just jump in and play alongside each other."

Last but not least, Nermark also notes that many old Syndicate fans had some high expectations and that his studio couldn't satisfy everyone.

"Syndicate comes with a lot of expectations. Such a great brand, such a great franchise. I don't think we could've ever lived up to some people's expectations."

Did you get to play Syndicate earlier this year or are you still expecting some sort of strategy remake of the original titles?
