Star Trek Online will see some interesting changes in its next two major updates, Season Two and Season Three. Craig Zinkievich, the title's executive producer, talked about what was in store for the fans in the big content additions to come in his latest State of the Game address.

Season Two will include, according the Zinkievich, mini games, like Dabo in Quark's establishment on Deep Space Nine and rewards for the players that engage in non-combat gameplay. Some new faction free episodes, that is missions that will be available for both the Federation and The Klingons, ship interiors and more focus for Klingon Player vs Environment content are also on the list of new stuff that is set to be available once that new update is out. Along with these improvements, the level cap is going up 6 grades to vice Admiral 1 with new skills and more end-game content.

The exec refrained from talking too much about Season Three. Player feedback was very important for Zinkievich and he promised that whatever would be included in the third major update depended mostly on the gamers' wishes. He hinted at the addition of another faction and user-generated content as possibilities for Season Three.

Other updates were announced that were not included in the Seasons. An achievement tracking system called The Accolade System will soon be available. The Squad System will be enhanced so that it will let lower-level players match up to higher-level ones and do missions together by temporarily raising the formers' stats. Balance Adjustments, UI improvements and bug fixes were also promised.

Star Trek Online is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Cryptic that lets gamers become star-ship captains like Jean-Luc Picard or James Kirk, famous characters from the TV series. It was launched in March this year and it was not a resounding success. This might change, though, as the developer seems to be committed to fixing the title's problems and adding more content the players can enjoy.

Really hope they turn it around. I have a lifetime sub and have been totally disappointed at how shallow the game is. I pre ordered it but only played for about a month. Now I login maybe an hour or two each month to see if there is anything new.
These are positive changes, but only time will tell whether it is enough or if it is too little too late. The player population and even forum activity has dropped dramatically since launch.
