Square Enix has announced that Order of War, its Western style real time strategy title part of the company's campaign of enlarging its audience, should be released on September 22 for the PC.

The game is set in World War II during the year of 1944 and will allow strategy fans to play two single player campaigns, one as the American forces against the Germans, and one as the Soviets against the Nazis. Those who are interested in the title can now go to the official site and pick up a demo.

Development of the game is being handled by Wargaming.net, a studio best known for having created Massive Assault, a turn based videogame that seems designed for the most hardcore of tactics fans.

They are saying that Order of War will be offering players a chance to get into quite big battles that will be featuring around 1,000 units at the same time. Success will depend on the player using air, tanks and foot soldiers in a coordinated fashion but other than that, both Square Enix and Wargaming.net are keeping rather quiet until the official release. Order of War is part of a strategy from Square Enix to break into the Western videogaming markets.

The publisher is best known for creating complex Japanese role playing games, like the Dragon Quest and the Final Fantasy series, but this year, it acquired Eidos, and wants to oversee the creation and launch of games like Order of War but also Supreme Commander 2 from Gas Powered Games and Front Missions Evolved from Square Enix.

Can a Japanese company partner with a wargaming-oriented studio from Belarus to create an interesting World War II real time strategy? We'll find out on September 22 when Order of War is being released.
