Although Norton’s security solution for Android devices has been available for download for quite some time in the Google Play store, formerly known as Android Market, Sprint has announced that the app has been included in the Sprint Zone or Sprint Tab.

The carrier’s customers who own a compatible Android device can easily download the Norton Mobile Security Lite application from any of the two locations mentioned above.

With Norton Mobile Security Lite, users will be able to remotely lock their smartphone with a simple text message, in case it’s lost or stolen.

The application is capable of scanning all files and app updates downloaded to an Android device and automatically detects and removes any threats encountered.

Sprint continues to work with industry leaders in the mobile security space to offer our customers best in-class options to better protect the important information stored on their smartphone or tablet,” said Fared Adib, senior vice president, product, Sprint.

The security application comes with anti-malware protection, which allows it to remove any dangerous files without taking its toll on the phone’s processor or battery.

In addition, Norton Mobile Security Lite application features automatic LiveUpdate, which means it will automatically download and install security updates whenever these become available.

Norton Mobile Security Lite provides protection from physical and online risks from the most trusted name in security – giving Sprint customers a secure and worry-free mobile experience,” said Dave Cole, vice president, mobile products, Norton.

Norton Mobile Security Lite is now available as a free download from Sprint Zone or Google Play, and it should be fully compatible with devices running Android 2.1 and up.

It is also worth mentioning that a premium version of the application is available for a one-year subscription price of $29.99.

This paid iteration offers additional protection features, such as the ability to remotely locate or wipe the device, block unwanted calls or text messages, or block phishing websites.
